Pressing the lookup button sends it, with the model year if you have chosen one, to the public vehicle database at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which fills in the year, make and model for you to check. We never save the VIN to your quote or to our records; our server uses it for no more than an hour, so a repeat lookup does not send a second request. You can type the details yourself instead.
